When is Kaamatan 2026?
When is Kaamatan 2026?
Kaamatan 2026 is celebrated on May 30–31, 2026, at the Sabah State-level festivities in KDCA Penampang, Kota Kinabalu. However, district celebrations and pageants happen throughout May, with each district holding its own Unduk Ngadau pageant and Kaamatan events. May 30–31 is a **public holiday in Sabah**, allowing Sabahans to celebrate the harvest festival with family and friends.
Kaamatan, also known as Pesta Kaamatan, marks the end of the rice-harvesting season for the Kadazandusun people of Sabah. It's a time for thanksgiving, cultural celebrations, and the famous Unduk Ngadau cultural pageant — a tribute to the legendary maiden Huminodun, judged on cultural knowledge and heritage rather than physical appearance alone.

Unduk Ngadau 2026 Finalists
New format for 2026: The organisers introduced a two-tier evaluation. Preliminary assessment ran through internal sessions from 26 May, followed by final judging on 31 May at KDCA Hongkod Koisaan, where the top 25 advanced (up from 15 in earlier years) (Bernama, checked 7 October 2026). A top 7 was then named before the winner was crowned (The Star, checked 7 October 2026).
Unduk Ngadau represents the beauty, grace, and cultural pride of Sabah's Kadazandusun women. Each finalist wears the traditional attire of the group she represents (Daily Express, checked 6 October 2026), and the programme includes an evening-gown event (Sodop) and questions on Kadazandusun culture.
