Sabah has public holidays the Peninsula doesn’t: Good Friday, two days of Kaamatan, the Governor’s Birthday and Christmas Eve are ours alone. Played right, a year of leave stretches much further here. This planner shows every long-weekend combo for 2026 and 2027: the exact leave days to take, and what you get back.

💡 How to actually get these approved

Long-weekend leave gets snapped up fast — especially around Kaamatan and year-end. Book the popular bridge days at the start of the year (the 2027 list is already gazetted), before your colleagues have the same idea.

Long-weekend FAQ

Q How many public holidays does Sabah get compared to the Peninsula?

The Sabah holiday list has 20 public holidays in both 2026 and 2027 (Sabah State Government, checked 7 October 2026). It includes holidays the Peninsula doesn’t observe: Good Friday, Pesta Kaamatan (2 days), the Sabah Governor’s Birthday, and Christmas Eve. In 2026 Wesak and Kaamatan Day 2 share 31 May, so there are 19 separate days off. That’s why leave-stacking works especially well here. Full calendar: Sabah public holidays 2026–2027.

Q Are the 2027 dates confirmed?

Yes. The Sabah state gazette published the 2027 holiday list on 26 March 2026 (Warta Kerajaan Negeri Sabah No. 100, checked 7 October 2026). Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Qurban and Deepavali carry an asterisk in that list, and Raya dates are still confirmed by moon sighting, so they can move by a day. Cards marked est. depend on one of those dates.

Q Do I get a replacement day if a holiday falls on a weekend?

In Sabah, a holiday that falls on a Sunday moves to the next day, or the day after if the next day is already a holiday. A holiday on a Saturday is not replaced (Sabah gazette holiday schedule notes, checked 7 October 2026). Private-sector staff come under the Sabah Labour Ordinance, which also moves a holiday that falls on a rest day to the next working day (Bernama, quoting the Sabah Labour Department, checked 7 October 2026). We show every replacement day on the cards above.

2026 and 2027 dates are from the Sabah state holiday lists. 2027 cards marked est. depend on Raya or Deepavali dates, which can still move by a day. Verified as of 7 October 2026. Full calendar with every holiday: Sabah public holidays 2026–2027 · school holidays · Sabah This Week archive.
